Ren'py Technical considerations [WEEK 14]
What software/hardware are you using? Why?
Kenny [Environment artist] -
Software - Firealpaca
Hardware - Pc and Graphics tablet
Personally I used Firealpaca due to the fact it is both free and runs the best on my PC, as all of our project will be digital art based, the fact i can make digital files that then can be utilized by all team members is really important to me. Firealpaca also can make PNG files which is what Ren'Py requires to be uploaded.
Niamh [Character artist] -

Seb [Director] -

Nathan [Script writer] -

Are you all using the same software/hardware?
Although we arent using all the same software, we are able to make the same file types and sizes across all of the softwares, on top of this all of the hardware we use can be used to make digital art on. However those who are using Ipads may not be able to use Ren'py.
What technological restrictions/limitations/guidance have your
team put in place to ensure consistency and professional practice?
By using a discord chat and OneDrive we can all access deliverables made for the project, on top of this we can communicate file sizes, canvas sizes and other vital details to make sure all of the artwork made is able to be used in the final product. The Character artist is also planning to make an art style guide to ensure that all of our art stays consistent throughout the project.
Backgrounds should all be made to the scale of - 1280 x 720 pixels.
• What is the difference between a ‘tag’ and an ‘attribute’?
Tags help identify what the asset you uploaded will be, such as a background [bg] meanwhile an attribute explains variations of an asset such as different poses and expressions.
• What do the statements ‘scene’ and ‘show’ mean?
Scene will wipe all current images before displaying a new background image, meanwhile show can be used to change a character sprite.
