Sound Design Brief Powerpoint link [WEEK 10]

Image
For my personal contributions to the sound design document I created the following slides, here are my general notes on each slide: Foley - I added in a Foley section and detailed in what sound effects we could use to supplement and enhance our game's environment, i think features such as the ambient chatter, message sound effects and footsteps could really help our game feel more immersive and save time in setting scenes, telling a story through audio prompts rather than having to tell our audience what is happening. Background music - On the Background music slide i gave some thoughts on the soundtrack for some of the most important areas of our game, what the music would sound like, what techniques we could use, and how this would have an impact on our audience in terms of setting a scene and storytelling. Menu Screen/End Scene - Following on from this i also talked a little about the menu screens and the ending screen, though thought that the best option for us that would save...

Elephants Earring [WEEK 10]

Image
Here i have included a video showcasing my models so far, I'm not able to create a turntable so i created a video instead to capture all angles of my models. The plant i have made below is one i have called the Elephants Earring, it is a single plant with two trunks that intertwine to make a sort of infinity symbol shape. I had a little trouble with this plant and trying to get the curved trunks to look alright but I'm quite pleased with the end result. Final model Base Model UV Modelling Process - Firstly, I extruded a cylinder to the shape of the trunk in the front viewport, once i was happy with this i switched to the side viewport and selected the faces, going up the trunk and pushing or pulling them to get that swooping S shape, this took some tweaking as to not make the trunk look lumpy or too straight in areas, once i was happy with this i UV mapped it and copied the model, rotating it 180 degrees so that it would spiral correctly. I UV as i go so that 1- i dont have so...

Scorpion tree [WEEK 9 ]

Image
This is another 3D model i made for the large plants, I called this model the Scorpion tree due to it's resemblance to a scorpion's tail. The tree is made up of cylinders that i extruded into spike like shapes which i then coloured to have slight gradient to them. For some reason the colours of this tree were a lot more saturated that the other plants i have made so far, so to fix this i just put a lighter blue overlay over the tree just to make the colours more cohesive with the other plants. I found this surprisingly easier to model than i thought it would be, i had some concerns on how i was going to make the spikes and initially began modelling them more like a squashed can shape, example below, but in the end i found the spike shape to look much nicer. I also had some trouble with the heart shaped fruit, i initially made it out of a sphere polygon but this resulted in some strange geometry problems, in the end i created it out of a cylinder that i extruded to shape, and a...

Labour Market Information and Equality, Diversity and Inclusion [WEEK 8]

Labour market - The labour market can be defined as the overview of good and service sales and the overall status of your chosen industry. It may also cover job roles and skills within the pipeline, average salaries for people in the industry, workstyles, and inclusion and diversity within the industry. Findings - In the games industry there are a variety of job types, work styles and salaries available to people hoping to get into this area of work. Since the Covid Pandemic, many employers have explored the possibility for at home and hybrid jobs along with studio based jobs to open positions up to a wider range of people. In a study done by Williams (2024) for the UK games survey, data was gathered that showed that 32% of job roles are now compatible with all working dynamics, offering the opportunity to work from home, while 66% of jobs in the games industry are studio based, having more than a quarter of jobs offer this opportunity, it means that working from home or operating...
