Kitchen Background [WEEK 16]
Taking the sketch that was most highly voted on i drew over the top of it to make this final image. I went with a yellow and blue colour pallet as most of the scenes in the kitchen are interactions with the main character and the room mate, Anna. Anna's colour pallet is very close to this one and so i thought it would make the overall scene feel more cohesive. I also added in the sun plushie because a lot of people seemed to like it.

Here is how the background looks in game with the temporary sprites, I'm really happy with how this looks and i think the lighting is really atmospheric. On top of this the shelves and extractor fan hood help provide good areas of focus in the scene.
Group feedback and alterations -
Showing this to my team we discussed how this scene would look with the art style we have chosen for the characters. As the characters in monster prom are quite saturated we all decided to see how the background would look with a higher saturation to it, which actually turned out looking much nicer. It fits with the warm colour pallet of our game and will look more cohesive with the character art style. Now that we have this information i will make sure to boost all of the saturation of the backgrounds henceforth. To make sure all the backgrounds have this similar look, i use the dawn gradient map on a 15% opacity, then boost the saturation up to around 80% which gives this nice warm summery feel to the scenes. I think this also helps push the idea of the apartment being a comforting environment for the main character, and this cozy lighting really helps with that.
Gantt Chart -
I have now finalized the kitchen scene and have been continuing to talk with Amiya about tweaks to our games soundtrack, I'm going to be making a Youtube playlist of inspiration to send to her to help with the music generation. On top of this i have asked Seb and Pantelis to work together to create a 3D model and finalize the look of the classroom so i can begin the final assets for those. We discussed having 3 views, one looking into the class, one looking up at the desks, and one at the front where the teacher will be standing. I hope to get this started by next week.
