Observational drawings

 Brutalist Architecture studies -

To get a better understanding of what makes brutalist architecture unique i decided to do some observational sketches on both brutalist buildings, airport watchtowers, and water towers as these are shapes and themes that will be present in my designs for the environment. When drawing these structures i noticed that almost all these buildings use very strong geometric shapes that have few smaller details on them, this makes for a tall and imposing looking building that seems like it would be resistant to a war like environment. These buildings are constructed from bare concrete, prioritizing utility over aesthetics, yet still having a unique beauty to them. To construct a building that is reminiscent of this type of architecture, i should pick one main shape that i want my building to be based on [cylinders/cubes/cuboids] then add more of that shape onto the main shape to make extrusions that will become rooms, balconies or chimney stacks. Everything stays very angular with windows, stairs and entrances pushed back into the main shape of the building to give it a more fortified look. To take the start and imposing look of brutalist buildings further, a bit of streaky weathering to the concrete gives a grimy and dull look to the building as opposed to the higher end, more polished brutalist buildings that feel more suited to a nice modern home. I think the studies of water towers and watch towers will be especially helpful when deciding on a final design for one of my street furniture assets, i really like the long slits that almost look like windows in the conical water tower in the field, and i think something like that crossed with the airport watchtower might give a more futuristic look to a recognisable shape.

Gatling gun studies and personal review of my design -

I also decided to do some observational sketches of Gatling guns [of various models and applications] to see how i could possibly improve my own gun design for the future. Something i noticed was that most Gatling guns are either mounted on a side mounted gimbal, or a tripod stand, for more secure and steady aiming. A gimbal stand would be more appropriate for the Hogg and Swine as it would be quite rough as it moved, and some sort of stabilization mechanism would allow the Swine to aim more accurately. I also thought that adding a handle on the back would allow for better control of movement, the trigger button for the gun would also be on top of this handle. Some of these models of guns have a handle towards the barrel of the gun too, i don't think i would need to add this in necessarily as those handles are usually added so that the user can carry the gun with more points of stability. A big detail i noticed i missed was i did not put a round pivot point from the barrel to the body of the gun, meaning that the barrel of the Hogg and Swine gun, would not rotate. I would definitely add this in in the future as the rotation of a barrel for a gun like this facilitates the fast firing rate without overheating the gun. On top of this , i would also add a different shroud to the gun with air holes in it to also allow the gun to better cool down. Now with a better grasp of how these guns work, i added some notes onto my drawing to how i would improve my design to make it more believable.

Katya Pose studies -

Here i have made some additional pose drawings of Katya just to explore her character a little further. I did change the pose from my reference slightly as i imagine her to wield her hook with one hand, leaving the other free to throw her collar. Her specific attacks would be very important to gameplay as it is what would set her apart from the other playable characters in the roster.
