Character Creation task [In lesson]

For this task we had to create either a menacing/scary looking creature using round shape language, or a cute/passive looking creature using sharp shape language. I personally chose to do the former option and created quite a fluffy and soft looking dragon creature but used body language and a pose to infer that it is in a defensive stance and could attack. For the shape language aspect the creature has quite a smooth body with fur around its neck, head and legs, as well as a large thick tail and rounded snout. When not in a protective stance it's large round eyes on the side of its head give it almost a docile, prey-like appearance, meanwhile the fur around it's neck when it is stressed stands up and it's eyes clearly show a sense of unease giving the creature a much more dangerous appearance. I think I could have pushed the shape language a little more in this piece by perhaps making the body of the creature a bit chubbier, This would have really helped to push that innocent and passive creature look. I also think I could work to make the pose a bit more dynamic perhaps lifting the head up more away from the arm to make a more readable and balanced silhouette. Overall however, I do really like the creatures design and I think it is quite expressive.
