Journal Page planning [WEEK 4]

For this session I spoke with my team on what our next steps should be, we presented the work we have done so far and looked into areas that might need more development. To contribute to this project I will take some of my final sketches and mock up some final images that will be used in the main characters journal, this will include a drawing of the plant and a short bit of flavour text that will tell you about the plant in focus. After this I need to finish the large plant concepts, make the journal pages for those, then we are all going to make postcards for the splash art/loading screens in our own art styles. These postcards will al contain locations within our game so they still fit with the theme but the difference in art styles could be something quite interesting to look at. Although most of the plants in our game are going to be in 2D, I might try to make some small plants/Fruits in Z brush as sort of a reference for the rest of my team to turn to if they want to draw them from different angles.

Journal page:

I was inspired visually by a scrapbook or notebook like appearance, I think it would be cool to have each text box in the journal look like it has been torn out of another notebook and stuck together onto the page alongside the sketch of the plant. As our main character is a researcher, I think this would fit into their personality well. It also adds an element of interactivity as the player collects the plants and finds out more about them, filling up their notebook as they go.

Some key information the journal page needs to include is:
- The sketch of the plant
- The plant name
- The flavour text, this includes location of the plant, the rarity of the plant, and if the plant has any extra information [is it poisonous, do certain animals like to eat it, does it repel certain animals?]
Layout number 1
Layout number 2
Layout number 3

Feedback :

Francis - I like the second one as the name is displayed above the plant image. I think this is easier to read

Niamh - The layout of number 2 read a lot easier as the most important aspects are on the left and the writing on the right, it almost reads like a book.

With this feedback I think i will likely choose number 2 as the base for the journal page as it is easiest to read. My next step is to create the final pieces that will be shown in the journal.
