Concept art - Combat [WEEK 7]

One of the feedback points brought up after our presentation is that we should make some more concept art for how the game would look and function, especially how the player would view the world and interact with things within it. I decided to draw some concept art for how the combat mechanic would look within the game, i imagine it to be still in POV with the character's weapon in the bottom left hand corner, i also thought that the crosshairs would shift from the camera viewport to the classic crosshair to signify the change in handheld item so the player doesnt accidentally take a bunch of photos instead of attacking a creature. Creatures actively in combat with you will be highlighted and a health bar will appear over their head, this could also signify youve been been spotted if youre trying to be stealthy. Some creatures will automatically go after the player if they enter their territory, whilst others will only attack whilst provoked, the player can also kill other non hostile mobs, though this would mostly be discouraged with them running away and dropping very little loot. As our game is about exploration, researching and protecting the species in the new Sahara, combat is a last resort.

Final Drawing

A small note is that the creature pictured here is based off of the design Faye created, i really liked how agressive it looked and how it's shape language clearly places it as a hostile mob. With this in mind i wanted to draw the design close to how our artist might draw the hyena, simplifying some of the details but keeping that strong triangular shape language and defining features.
Below is the creature design made by Faye that inspired this drawing.
