Director feedback / Research base concept art [WEEK 14]
Just before christmas i spoke to the director about what she wants me to create for this project next since the plant sprites are all complete, as are the animal journal entries, map, concept art, thumbnails and some HUD concepts. I had on my gantt chart shown that i would like to complete around 8 more large 3D models as well as some environmental aspects, though i was advised by my director to hold off from making any more 3D models for now, this is the conversation we had:
Niamh : ooo these all look excellent!!question: when I say sprites do you think of them as the model itself? cause game sprites are just generally png image files that you then use for later purposes - just wanted to check cause when I tasked to create sprites I honestly was just expecting the 2D png image files and not the full models of them - well either way I guess it's worked out in the end I just hope you didn't think I was giving you a lot of work to do by doing all these models 😅
Myself : ive uploaded both to the onedrive dont worry! both the model OBJ files and the sprites themselves i kinda got a bit excited and wanted to see what they would look like in game lmao
Niamh : ohh okay I just wanted to check cause my intentions weren't to make you do all the modelling and to have just focused on the sprite files so I wouldve felt bad if you thought I was asking for all these as models
Myself : i still have a little more to do, i have been updating my gantt chart and i think my next main priority is getting those final two plant journal sketches done, after that i have a few big models to do [around 5-6] and then im truly done for all my deliverables, if i have any extra time though theres a few extra bits and bobs i want to make for this project :)
Niamh : I was originally going to say to hold of on the big models just yet cause I was cautious how it'd look with the 2D lead creating most of the main models - but I think I'm viewing it too much with the original roles cause everyone in the group can do models and basically your role is the plants meaning youre basically in charge of the plants developments lol so basically yea that sounds good to me lol still trying to wrap my head around directing for a group and the developments of a game
Myself : oh no worries! im sorry i didnt mean to step on anyones toes im absolutely fine to hold off on doing them and maybe do more concept work if you'd prefer that? i was thinking of maybe drawing like a title screen or something with the name of the game, also some like location concepts too
Niamh : oh no apologies needed I dont think you really were stepping on toes but OOOO those sound like good ideas - we will need a background piece for the title screen/ main menu, you can definitely create like a style/logo for the title of the game hmm I shall try and create a quick mockup lay out of the title screen UI design so you know how to design the background art for it etc but definietly designing the title logo will be nice
With this in mind i've decided to change direction of what i had planned to deliver to focus more on concept art and title screen considerations, this is more suited to what my original job role is, while i do enjoy 3D modelling and don't at all feel that anything was dropped or forced upon me to do, i don't want to take a job away from someone else, so i think i will just try to make some more art deliverables until i am told i am needed to make more 3D models. With this in mind, my next task is to do some concept sketches and a final piece of the games title screen.
