Fridge Scene and Richie's room [WEEK 20]

 3D Model -

Here is the 3D model for the refrigerator scene on Tuesday, I reused the model I made for the kitchen scene so that everything would remain consistent and believable. The only changes i had to make was opening the fridge doors and stocking the fridge with some food. I kept it quite bare as the character will be covering most of the items in the fridge. From here i screenshotted the scene and cropped it down to the correct aspect ratio of the game.

Here is the scene fully coloured. I went with a cooler colour pallet to make this scene read as being chilly, i also added some highlights and shadow to the character sprite so that they blend in better. To flip the character around, i just erased the face, and arm over the chest, and filled in the now blank areas with the correct details, this means that the character remains in the same style as the rest of the game.

This is how this scene looks in-game, the text on the bottom will stand out much better once the UI is implemented as at the moment the light coloured text box is clashing with the blue light of the refrigerator and making it difficult to read Sweater's name.

3D Model

I followed a similar technique for Richie's room, I tried to make the aesthetic of the room fit with Richie's personality and what kind of things i imagine he'd be into. I modelled a few gaming devices, put plenty of posters on the wall, and generally kept the room a lot neater than Sweater's room. I feel sweaters and Richie are fairly opposite, Richie generally being more calm and confident compared to his friend, and his room reflects this as it isnt as cluttered and messy. Originally i had the desk in the foreground to imply Richie is sitting at a desk and looking through a webcam, however i realized with Ren'py s layering, Richie would be clipping into the desk. So instead i decided to shift the angle up a bit so that the bed looks to be at a more correct height so that Richie is now standing up with the implication his phone is on his desk.

This is how this scene looks with colour, I thought the LED lights fit well with his trendy personality, and i tried to keep the main colours of his bedsheets and rug fitting with his outfit. For the posters on the wall I had asked my team if they had any art they would like putting into the game as posters on the wall, as I didn't have any more art pieces that i thought would fit with Richie's room. I didn't get a reply from anyone so instead my friend Francis offered to give me some of his art pieces to put on his wall [as well as some funny images we made together], i really like how the pieces above Richie's bed look like movie posters and i think this fits really well with how i imagine Richie's personality to be. I imagine he is really into his games and movies, and this is something him and sweaters really relate on.

Gantt Chart -

Looking at my gantt chart, I'm really happy to see that the vast majority of the backgrounds have been completed. My next aim is to get the cafeteria scene out of the way and check in with my team if anyone is going to do the chat or day markers. We have a lot of time left until this project needs to be due in but i would really like to get this out of the way so that we can implement character sprites, UI and get promoting out project. I think i will also set up and Itch.io page for this project and put some information about it on my Instagram where i have a small audience that might be interested. I think even though my viewer base is small, some interaction is better than no interaction. I have also checked in with Amiya about the music and confirmed the deadline for this project with her so that she can better plan her schedule, She explains she has had to take a few weeks off from uni work for personal reasons which is absolutely fine, she has been updating me regularly which is really nice. I would have liked to meet up with her before Easter break however I absolutely want her to prioritize her own health and wellbeing and we can always meet up after the break. As stated before, she has been updating me frequently throughout this whole project and asked for feedback and guidance on how to best make music to fit out game which has been absolutely amazing as it keeps me informed on what everyone is doing. Although my role is not the director, I like keeping up to date with what my team is doing so that i can decide what task is best for me to do next. I'm feeling very excited for this project to start coming together and i hope we can get everything done for the deadline.
