MPG brief - Evaluation [Week 5]

Evaluation:

I've really enjoyed this project and regarding my final drawing I'm overall really happy with my concept and layout. I decided to do something different for this first project, I usually don't choose fantasy as a genre with these projects and it was really interesting to try something new. I felt I explored a large range of ideas in my thumbnails, but also narrowed it down to something that was still visually and conceptually unique.

I think my silhouette work and rendering has improved the most within this project, I was happy with the texturing on the tree and I think the little details like the warped and cracked bark really helps the gnarled tree visuals. However I think my anatomy, especially in the hands region, could do with some work. In the zoom in of Andrecka's pendant, I had a bit of trouble getting the hand to look right, even with changing up my shading I think something still looks a bit off. I also included in my final statement some thoughts on how I think I could have improved my overall concept, that being including more bodies at the base of the tree or hung up in the branches. Combine this with dressing them in regal clothing could allow the corpse to read more as a person of high societal standing, her servants and followers having been punished alongside her. This would also make her feel a lot more influential, powerful and dangerous, her actions having influenced far more lives than her own. Perhaps it could have been interesting to add a more dramatic silhouette to her dress on her ghoul form, at the moment compared to  the tree it does feel a little plain.

Overall though, I have really enjoyed this project and exploring new genres, I hope that my work can be reviewed by the multiplayer group as I think getting some industry professional advice on how to improve would really be helpful in bettering my work.
