Main character concept [WEEK 3]

 

My concept for the main character is based very similarly off of the room mate character's overall aesthetic and vibe. I imagined that the people put together in the shared living space were chosen out of similarity to one another to make it easier to make friends and settle in. The main character shares a similar, natural, colour pallet however instead of the reclined and easy stature of the roommate, the main character seems more reserved and hunched forwards, perhaps unsure of how to hold themselves. I wanted to convey a feeling of this character being someone comforting to be around, yet perhaps a little more insular and worried. As this character struggles with anxiety, i wanted their worries to show through in their design but not enough so that they seem almost like a caricature. Something else to note about the character is that we wanted them to be non binary, this is so that the player can interpret them however they like, letting them almost see the main character as themselves in a way. To represent this in the character i tried to give them a mix of both male and female characteristics, they have slightly longer hair and baggy clothing and a more androgynous figure. I was inspired by seb's drawing of the main character to give them a jumper, we discussed as a team perhaps giving the main character a different cardigan or jumper for each day of the week, each of us designing a jumper for them to wear. I personally think this is a really cute idea and i love how this would give an extra quirk to the character whilst also giving us as artists a chance to sort of put a personal Easter egg into the game with our designs. This might be quite easy to do too as if we draw the pattern out on a blank layer and clip it to the base layer of the cardigan or jumper it would save a lot of time rather than having to completely redraw the character each time. We also discussed giving the characters names, for the main character the name Charlie comes to mind for me.
