Ostrich Journal sketches [WEEK 11]

The next creature designed by Faye that i decided to put into the research journal style was the ostrich, I found this creature to be a little more challenging to draw as i had to render in feathers as opposed to fur, which i did by blocking in the feather shapes first with a darker tone, then going in with a lighter tone above in consistent strokes to give the appearance of feathers. This ostrich has a squatter frame, smaller body and a large set of wings that it uses to fly with. I took pose inspiration from real pictures of ostriches, similar to how i have been doing all the other animals loosely based on real photographs of the animal they are derived from. My next step was to make the colour iterations, based on Faye's concept work.

Colour Iterations :

Personally, My favourite of these designs is the pink one, i think it stands out best and the colours generally look quite nice together.

Gantt Chart -

Creating these sketches now brings me up to 4/6 animal journal sketches meaning i only have 2 left to do before i have completed this task, i aim to get these final two done on the weekend so that i can move onto my next task. Speaking with my director i was told to prioritize the 2D and 3D assets after this, mostly 2D assets as i havent gotten any of these done yet. She explained i can make these by first drawing them out in my drawing software then applying them to planes in Maya, i think i should be able to find a tutorial on how to do this online. She explained that if I'm not able to get all the 3D assets done we will at least be able to populate the scene with the 2D assets to make it more visually interesting. I should be able to get this done in a total of 5 days so that i can spend the rest of the time working on my 3D assets. I do want to get one more 3D model done this week however before i start work on the 2D assets. I am still feeling rather confident about this project and have not ran into any complications this week so far.
