Life drawing & Characters from descriptions
Clothing studies -
This week we looked at some clothing studies from life, we did a 3 minute and a 5 minute pose drawing our classmates with a variety of props. Of my 3 subjects, i really like how i captured the pose in the 3 minute Nathan drawing, especially where the fabric falls over the leg that is lifted up slightly, I feel i could have done better to capture the jean material on Francis's trousers especially on the 3 minute one, and for Sean i was overall really happy with how i drew the folds of the jacket tied around his waist, but i think i could have done better at drawing his arms on the 5 minute pose as the bent arm looks a little shorter than the raised arm.
Drawing from memory -
For these two drawings, the aim was to draw the subject from the opposite side to where they were sitting, for example, we were sat on the side of Lydia where the phone was raised, we could not see the other side of her and so we had to fill in the gaps from memory. This task helps to strengthen our poses from imagination skills and also to link together all of the anatomy skills we have learnt. I was really happy with how the drawing of Lydia came out, though i feel i could improve on the leg crossed over the other leg. For the drawing of Seb, i was actually modelling a pose for the other members of my team while drawing this, so from where i was sat all i could see was Seb's back. This was much trickier than the drawing of Lydia as i did not know where his hands were or if he was holding anything, so i really had to do a lot of inferring based on the folds of his clothing. In the end i think it looks alright, but i wished i had shown more of the chair as his seating pose looks very unnatural. I thought this was a very fun and beneficial challenge however that pushed me to think more about details that might not be seen.
Drawing characters from descriptions -
Finally, we drew some characters based on descriptions our classmates gave. This was a very fun exercise and a good demonstration on why being specific with descriptions is always important, for the most part i think the characters look a lot like who they are supposed to represent, and it was cool to see how close i got to the designs of characters i had never actually seen before.
