Capstone Project - Card Feedback

 Employee card feedback -

I recently joined a discord server of professionals in the tabletop industry to get some advice on how to improve my work, one of the people in the chat suggested trying out some alternate layouts for the employee cards as they looked a little cramped. Using this feedback I made two alternate versions, one with a solid stone background, and one with a more realistic stone background.

Of these two, I think number 1 looks a lot more cohesive to my game's cartoony style. The individual I got the advice from also agreed.

I also asked some of my peers what they thought, I think I agree with them that it was much easier to read, however I personally liked the separation of the artwork and the text using the stone frame. To reach a middle ground of finding something that doesn't blend in with the characters whilst also keeping the separation of text and artwork, I created another version of the original employee card design with a light grey background as opposed to the tan colour.

As you can see, this creates a more defined split between the character art and the text whilst also not blending in with the colour pallet of the character. [this is a low resolution screenshot as Scribus does this to save processing speed.] I think this is a good middle ground and my peers also agreed that this was a good option. I think the feedback i got from the professional was very useful in identifying an issue with the clarity of the design elements on my final card.

Applying this to all my cards on the final format, I can now move onto the action cards which I hope to complete over the Easter break. As these are going to be in a more simplistic cave painting-esque style, it should be feasible to get this completed within the timespan of a week and then after easter I aim to move onto the player cards, manual, and if I have time, some concepts for box art [then actually getting my game printed].
