Capstone Project - Token Considerations
Manufacture considerations-
There are 160 tokens in my game, 40 fauna tokens, 40 flora tokens, 40 energy tokens, and 40 money tokens. I was thinking of how I would like to include these within my game. I want to avoid using any 3d printed or plastic pieces as I want to keep my product as environmentally friendly as possible. I was looking into some options and I have 4 [2 of which are quite unique] options for how I would approach making these tokens in my game.
My first option - Glass cabochons:
I could print off some images on card and glue them to the bottom of the cabochons to represent each of the token types. This is a cheap way to make custom tokens but would be somewhat labour intensive.
Appearance - 4/5
Price - 2/5
Difficulty to assemble - 4/5
My second option - Painted pebbles:
I love this idea, I think its very unique and fits so well with the theme of my game. Pebbles are cheap to buy in bulk however painting each individual pebble would take so long. I would say to separate them by appearance but its not guaranteed to have enough variation of pebble colours in each bag. Also, they're quite heavy. This is not a very viable option for mass manufacture but i think for a single run this is a very charming option for tokens.
Appearance - 5/5
Price - 1/5
Difficulty to assemble - 5/5
This is the best option for manufacture however it is much more expensive than my other options, looking at over £40 for one batch of tokens. I think if I were making more than one copy I would choose this option however as it is just one copy for myself I am inclined to choose the pebble option just as it is the most unique.
Appearance - 4/5
Price - 5/5
Difficulty to assemble - 1/5
Of these choices, I think I will go for the pebble option and just find a workaround to make painting them go much quicker, maybe simplifying the designs that I paint on them.
