Personal work

Image
Here is some of my personal work from over this year using techniques learnt in class- Date completed - 27/10/2024 This is a piece of one of my characters that I used the referencing tip for, I have found that finding that curvature of the legs really helps me draw the shapes more accurately. I did neaten up some of my sketch but I only used the image on the left hand side as reference. I also used contrapposto  on the shoulders and hips to infer the movement of him looking over his shoulder. I do think I could have pushed the tilt of the head forward more to better match the reference however. This is the piece finished, I am really happy with this piece and I found the referencing tip very helpful. I have stepped away from my usual style in some respects for this drawing, it has been something I have been working on in my own time to vary my shading art general art style techniques. I didnt use the airbrush tool [except for the blush on his face] and opted for a cell shadi...

Base Mesh

Some helpful Brush shortcuts - BCB - clay build up  BMV - brush move BST- standard brush BPI - pinch brush BDS - dam standard Remake of the torso - Before making my base model i decided to remake the torso i made last lesson as I really wasn't happy with how it looked. This time i brought up a reference to work from to make sure my muscle placements were more accurate and my proportions of the ribcage were more lifelike. I am certainly a lot happier with this, however I feel i definitely need to have another go at looking at how to sculpt accurate anatomy, especially refining muscle placements. Building a base - For this lesson we were creating a base character model, I first started out by creating a rough shape using the Zsphere tool that we used last week. I had a little trouble at first getting it to work, my model had somehow duplicated itself, but I was told that I should save my sculpt as a tool and bring it back into a new document, this solved the issue. Then I moved onto ...

Journal Menu Mockup [WEEK 6]

Using some of the concepts I have made so far, I put together a little mock up of how the journal menu might look in game. I included the View all button, Next, Exit, Journal select, and specific focus buttons to illustrate what each function could be. As I have very limited knowledge on more professional coding or game making platforms such as python or unreal, I just made this mock up in Scratch. I hope with this video it can help illustrate how our game might play and how you might navigate around the User interface. As stated before this is just a rough draft for the UI artist to edit as they choose.

Life is strange case study [WEEK 5]

Image
Life is strange (Square Enix 2015) is a “third-person narrative adventure games”(Square Enix 2015) following the plot of a student by the name of Max Caulfield who possesses the ability to rewind time and change the future. The game takes place in a location called Arcadia bay, Max must make her way through a complex story with many routes in the hope to save her classmates, and Arcadia bay from a terrible fate. The plot of the game has many dark and emotional moments in which the player must make very difficult decisions to get to a certain ending, there are times where picking what you think is the best choice might actually end up hurting another character or taking you down another path entirely.  Life is strange (Square enix 2015)   The artstyle of Life is strange is very similar to most Square enix games of the time, It is somewhat stylized realism with high detail in the skin and lighting, however the hair on the models are quite blocky and segmented. In some plac...

Game Concept art [WEEK 5]

Image
This is some concept art i made for how our game might look, i was considering some mechanics that we could implement such as the weather function as i have spoke about previously, The time function that would just give a bit more believability to the game, as well as the phone mechanic where you would be able to find the profiles of all the characters you have met, your relationships with them, and potentially a map where you could select which location you would like to go to next. This map function could open the game up a bit more and give more options to the player but would probably take a long time to implement as well as would add more endings and scenarios to the game. For the character icons i thought it would be a nice touch to have an item representing each character, for example for the popular girl it would be her pendant. Whilst this isnt a final design i think it gives a good idea of what our game could look like and the type of feel we want to portray through the ...
