DEVLOG 5 - Sculpting

 After importing my model into Zbrush as a new tool, I split the sections of my model up into different polygroups so that I could isolate certain areas to add detail to without other parts of the model getting in the way. For example, I combined legs and arms on separate body groups [dynameshing them to make them smooth] so that I could add in the wrinkles without the neck and waist fluff getting in the way. I usually start at a lower poly count then work my way up adding details with higher poly counts later on so that I can easily get big details down first. You can see this especially on the trousers, below you can see the larger details like the knees and the big wrinkles, which I will later smooth and refine further down the line. This technique is also similar to how I made the neck fluff. The base mesh I made on maya had the very rough, low-poly shape of the fluff which I then built upon in ZBrush with the Move tool.   Here is a compilation of some of my personal contributions to our group discord, it is to note i have not included all of the discussions we have had and i have tried to include only relevant responses [my team have definitely posted more messages than this but they revolve around other aspects not relating the the subject i have screenclipped, just for the sake of this blogpost not being unreasonably long, i will only cover the main discussion points from throughout this project.] Here is our channel list #General Here I was asking my team for what backgrounds they required for their individual parts of the script, we never ended up having storyboards for all of us, and instead i had to read through the entire script which did give me some conflicting answers for how many backgrounds i needed. Life Drawing 5

  1 Minute Warmup Sketches - This week's life drawing session we focused on material and folds on the human figure, the model came in wearing a quite loose fitting dress along with a scarf so that we could study the folds of the fabric. For our 1 minute sketches i focused only on the visible folds in the fabric, sketching them out and then refining the human form a little more afterwards. I feel like this worked somewhat well and i especially like the first sketch on the first image, the first sketch on the second image, and the second sketch on the third image. I think i captured the poses best in these sketches and i like how interesting the folds were, it was fairly easy to identify the pinch points on these poses too. Not having to focus on the full figure was also much less stressful in only 1 minute. 3 Minute Sketches - Moving onto the 3 minute sketches i found some of these quite challenging, having the most trouble with the reclined/lying down poses.
