Capstone Project - Client Card: Mebb the Lost
Mood boards -
For Mebb the lost I wanted to go with a Backpacker kind of look to reflect on her name. In my mood board I mostly focused on clothing elements I found interesting, in my mind she would have horns on her hat [I'm not sure why? I just think they would look cool and make her stand out from Obie and Grug] so I tried gathering examples of horns being used as headwear. I also included references of modern backpacking attire and modern clothing made to look prehistoric, to combine those into her design. At the top left I also included a picture of Max from where the wild things are, as I thought giving her boots made of the sharp claws of a creature would be a cool addition to her outfit. These clawed feet would effectively act as hiking boots, allowing her to walk across a wide range of terrain.

I had a pretty strong idea of what Mebb would look like, so I didn't feel I needed to make as many thumbnails as for Grug or Obie. In these designs I tried to give her a very outdoorsy feel, with hairstyles practical for someone who is quite athletic, a backpack to hold her supplies, and loose fitting clothing that allowed her to move freely. Her colour pallet is more cooler toned, with the main pattern of focus being the green dinosaur print that is also worn by Grug the Stylish. I feel this makes her more unique as most of the fabrics on the designs I have made so far have been mostly based around different kinds of furs.
Of these designs, I personally really liked designs 2, 4 and 5 for their unique hairstyles, however thinking about her outdoorsy personality, I think design 5 would be more suitable. As for the clothing, I do really like the thick fur shirt, I think the white ties in with the horns and boots and also visually links her to the rest of the clients who all have some form of fur detailing on their outfits.
Feedback -
I asked my peers what they thought looked best and they agreed that design 5 has the best outfit. They also suggested altering the backpack slightly to turn her bedroll into a log for a pillow, which I think is a great idea!

Combining these elements, here is the final outfit design for Mebb the Lost. I made a few colour iterations as I wasn't fully happy with the original pallet. I really like option 3, I think the complementary colour pallet is really nice and draws attention to the scaled pattern on her clothing.
Feedback 2 -
Most of my peers also agreed with this sentiment, so that was the design I selected for the end product.
Final Card -
For the final card pose I actually really liked the pose I drew on Mebb's reference sheet, for this reason I followed the same pose but zoomed it in a bit, making sure that it would fit on the card.
Here is how the final card looks! I really like how this turned out and I think she looks great when placed next to the other client cards. To make sure she fits on my scribus template, I made sure to make a version of her that is not cut off on the edges to account for bleed.

With Mebb done, this now means I am half the way through the client cards. I would Ideally like to get another 2 clients done this week so that I have less character cards to work on. I would also like to get a very quick concept sketch done for the furniture card backgrounds at some point this week to make formatting them much quicker.
