Game lore [WEEK 16]

Image
In this post i aim to kind of string together some lore points about the universe we have created, most of my ideas are based off of discussions we had as a team in class and hopefully will explain some of the reasonings behind our design choices :). The world outside of the Sahara - Outside of the New Sahara, the world is ravaged by a corruption solely of man's creation, Pollution, radiation, rubble of fallen civilizations as far as the eye can see. This corruption was the result of a great war, a war so terrible that it's devastation could not be cleared by any man nor machine. Though, in amongst the detritus a few settlements remained, people made homes from anything they could find, banded together in primitive communities, with no electricity and no internet they were almost Neolithic in nature. And from this came the discussion of the matter of what to do now. What could they do to fix this hell they found themselves in. A small team of scientists, Farmers and engineers ...

Final Concept art [WEEK 16]

Image
The River - The second to last piece of concept work that i wanted to make was an environment piece depicting one of the location in the deep jungle this being the jungle river. I started out the drawing on a 1 point perspective grid and drew in the main elements of my drawing, that being the surrounding jungle border and the river in the foreground stretching back into the background. I used the colours from the  map of the Sahara that i made and just neatened up my sketch layer to stand in for line art. compared to many of the other environments in the New Sahara such as the oasis and savannah which are quite bright, the deep jungle in my mind has darker hues to give a bigger sense of danger and isolation, it is much harder to traverse this landscape. I also included one of the animal designs that Faye had made just to give a focal point to the drawing, i tried to use leading lines and contrast of colour within the river, surrounding foliage, and the cliffs leading out towa...

Title screen font [WEEK 16]

Image
Title screen Mockup Sketch Title font Taking the font i had downloaded previously - Brassia  , i decided to sketch overtop of it with some of the plant designs i had made previously, i decided to turn the O into the saharan plum, the T into the savannah viper, the h has some mushrooms on it, the dirt has the beetle that pantelis designed, and there is a camera crosshair to tie in the photography elements. I also warped the text a little to make it more visually interesting, i did this using firealpaca's mesh transform tool as there isnt a curve text tool in my program. I chose the green colours as i thought it would show up best against the art piece whilst still feeling cohesive to the whole colour scheme. This is just a concept of how the game might look, and i have sent all of the assets separately so that the director can decide what they want to do with them. Now that i have this done, i will continue to work on my concept art and animal sprites to help out my team. Ced...

Shuttle Bus concept & texturing[WEEK 16]

Image
Shuttle Bus concept art and model - Sketchfab Link  to the Verdancy Shuttle bus. For one of my concept pieces i wanted to draw what the shuttle bus might look like that takes the researchers from one research lab to another. It would functionally be a form of quick travel within the game, the player need only find a shuttle station, pick a location on the map and the shuttle driver will take them to their desired location. I imagined the shuttle to be reminiscent of a safari vehicle, yet more blocky and plastic like much like the research labs themselves, i also imagine it to be some sort of electric vehicle so overall quite sleek and modern looking. Below i compiled a bit of a mood board for cars that fit my idea for the shuttle, which i then combined to make a 3D sketch of in maya. I then used this to draw on top of to create my concept work. I have found this method of making vehicles and architecture much easier to do in maya than drawing them, i struggle with imagining t...

Modelling process - Magdalene

Base Maya Model - Originally i wanted to make the base for my model out of Zspheres, i brought in my Orthographic drawing from the previous post into Z brush by first selecting the draw tab, front back option, map 1, and importing my texture. This gave me a guide to where i need to put my z spheres, from here i then clicked the simple brush option, brought in a z sphere, and moved and scaled it to my desired location. I found that the end product that i got from doing this was not what i wanted, and i found it really difficult to place the spheres in a manner that matched my orthographic so i decided to take a different route to make my base model.  I made an image plane on maya to show my orthographic and then went on to model over it using extruded cylinders and spheres for the main blocks of the body, i didnt bother making the hood part of the head nor any of the details because i figured it would be better to make them in zbrush, at this point i wasn't really sure how i was goi...
